CM Yadav Pushes for Public Drinking Water Stalls Amid Rising Summer Heat

The chief minister advocated the installation of drinking water stalls in association with social organisations

As summer intensifies, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has stressed the urgent need to ensure drinking water availability in Madhya Pradesh’s cities and villages. He directed officials to set up public drinking water stalls with support from social organisations.

In a meeting at his Samatva Bhavan residence, Yadav urged authorities to ensure drinking water reaches every urban neighbourhood and rural household. He highlighted the importance of clean water tanks and efficient distribution. In tribal areas, drinking water projects will be implemented under the Dharati Aaba Utkarsh Abhiyan, while villages will benefit from the Single Village Tap Water Scheme and Jal Jeevan Mission.

For water-scarce regions, Yadav asked the Public Health Engineering Department and local bodies to collaborate on solutions. He emphasised reactivating unused hand pumps and enhancing conservation efforts through the Jal Ganga Water Conservation Campaign. Panchayat and urban body officials were directed to prioritise water distribution alongside cleanliness measures.

Officials reported that since the Jal Jeevan Mission’s launch, 62.71 lakh household water connections have been provided, covering 63.81% of total households. As of March 16, this coverage has reached 68.19%. Group and single-village tap water schemes are benefiting thousands of villages, while over 5.62 lakh hand pumps continue to supplement water supply.
