Constant Dialogue Necessary between Media and Law Enforcing Agencies: Gupta
Home Minister Umashankar Gupta has said that constant dialogue is necessary between law enforcing agencies and media as lack of communication results in problems, which can easily be avoided, said an official release.
Inaugurating a three-day workshop on the subject ‘Media management in emergency’ at Police Training and Research Institute, the minister specifically referred to the countrywide debate on the role of media in Mumbai terrorist attack and Arushi murder case and said that media and all other institutions must keep national interests above everything.
He said that people should not do any work for furthering vested interests, for it may be detrimental to the society and the nation.
Recognising tough competition between various media houses to outdo other in breaking the news, the minister said that they should, however, not sacrifice the truth in the process.
Gupta stressed that baseless news undermine the credibility of media since a large number of people believe in the news published or telecast by media.
He exhorted the police personnel to take maximum advantage of the workshop, which is being jointly organised by Government of India’s Police Development and Research Bureau and Indian Institute of Mass Communication with the cooperation of Madhya Pradesh Police.
As many as 15 SPs, 16 ASPs, IGs, DIGs, senior journalists and experts from Indian Institute of Mass Communication are attending the workshop.
Other dignitaries present on the occasion include Former DG, Indo-Tibet Border Police, Gautam Kaul, DGP SK Raut, Additional DGP (Training) Ramesh Sharma, Kshitij Mohan Shrivastava from Indian Institute of Mass Communication, senior NDTV journalist Arvind Uttam, SP (Training) AK Shrivastava and other senior police officers and journalists.
DSP KS Rathore of Jawaharlal Police Academy, Sagar, conducted the proceedings.
