Constitution of Department of Happiness and Narmada Seva Yatra are welcome steps : Dalai Lama

Bhopal. Chief minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan today met Buddhist religious guru Shri Dalai Lama. Chief Minister Shri Chouhan informed him about Department of Happiness and ongoing Narmada Seva Yatra for river conservation. Shri Lama said that development of mind is more important than physical development because it is lasting. Formation of Department of Happiness is very good step. Narmada Seva Yatra is a work worth to welcome.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that happiness does not come out from outside but from inside. Department of Happiness has started activities in this regard in Madhya Pradesh. Those, who have more than enough material, Anandam Kendras have been made for them to give them to others. Sports and Cultural activities have been introduced under Anand Utsav. ‘Alap Viram’ programme has been started. Besides, meditation, Yoga and Pranayam like activities have been launched. Ancient psychology, ‘Nishkam Karmayoga’ and teachings of Buddha have been included in text book. This is the art of living a good life.

Narmada Seva Yatra is the world’s biggest movement for river conservation

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that Narmada river is lifeline of Madhya Pradesh. The river provides drinking water and irrigation and electricity. This is a holy river. Its stream has shrunk because of tree felling. Plantation will be carried out both the sides in one thousand km distance creating awareness in people in Narmada Seva Yatra. Treatment plants will be set up to prevent flow of sewage water in the river. People are being made aware of not to dispose of pujan material in the river to save it from pollution. Liquor shops will be closed down in villages located banks of Narmada from April 1. Remaining villages will be made addiction-free slowly. Save girl child campaign is going on in the state. Scheme like Ladli Laxmi has been launched and every girl child gets Rs one lakh at 21 years age. Villages of both the sides of Narmada are being made open defecation free. Narmada Seva Yatra has now become public movement. Every class of the society and seers are participating in it. On next July 2, lakhs of saplings will be planted from Amarkantak to Barwani. This has become the world’s biggest river conservation movement.

All the villages in the state have road connectivity, 24 hours electricity, facilities for irrigation and education. Youths are being motivated for setting up small cottage industries. Apart from this, Mukhyamantri Yuva Udyami Yojana has been introduced. Self help groups of women are being promoted. Rs 50,000 incentive is given for inter-caste marriage in the state.

India’s psychology practices are the best

Shri Dalai Lama said that physical development is external one. Along with this, there should be development inside also. Poor is happy if happiness is in the mind and if there is not happiness in mind, even rich are not happy. Psychological practices of India are the best. If we want mental happiness, we should concentrate on ancient psychology. Psychology is important subject in Indian tradition. Psychology has been included as a subject in education and not part of religion. Western scientists get interest in ancient psychology. Such practice is already in India. Prevailing from ancient time, tradition of ‘Sarva Dharma Sambhav’ is very relevant today.

Shri Dalai Lama said that closing down liquor shops of villages located banks of Narmada in Narmada Seva Yatra is an appreciating step. Plantation on both the sides of the river will yield good results. This initiative of river conservation is welcome. Such initiative should be taken for all important rivers of India. Tibet has tradition of use of water, its maintenance and environment conservation. But, flood like situation are seen there because of tree felling. Tree felling is one of the major causes of global warming. Climate change across the globe has emerged. Environmentalists should study river conservation in Tibet and aware peoples about it.

He said that villages should also be developed with development of urban areas. Efforts for girl education by Madhya Pradesh government are laudable. Caste based discrimination is not right. All religions heads should go among the people and explain that the God has made everyone equal. Caste system is a thing of the past. Influential people of the society should get rid of the caste.

Shri Dalai Lama gifted idol of Buddha to Chief Minister Shri Chouhan. He said that Gautam Buddha is ancient scientist of India, apart from a philosopher, ideologist and social reformer who teaches to check everything on the basis of argument.
