Development of cities possible only through people’s trust and participation: Gaur

Bhopal: Urban Administration & Development Minister Shri Babulal Gaur has said that systematic development of cities is possible only through people’s trust and participation. Shri Gaur was holding discussions with office-bearers of international organisation Metropolis who called on him here today. Commissioner Urban Administration Shri Sanjay Shukla was also present on the occasion.

Office-bearers of Metropolis Sushri Terreser Olimar, Sushri Igness Veeford and Shri Sunil Dube informed that this institution has been constituted by United Nations Organisation (UNO). It has 130 cities of the world including 6 of India as its members. Organisation’s objective is to develop cities along with environmental conservation. Provision of basic amenities to citizens has become challenging due to increasing population. This organisation is assisting its member cities in formulation of policies through discussions on technical, environmental, social and economic issues.
Referring to Bhopal’s development, Urban Administration Minister Shri Gaur informed that about 20 thousand slum dwellers have been resettled during construction of roads in the city specially VIP Road. They were provided employment also. Minister Shri Gaur also apprised the delegation about history of Bhopal’s Upper Lake and efforts for its conservation during last some years.
Commissioner Urban Administration Shri Sanjay Shukla informed that apart from Bhopal, development works are also being undertaken at a rapid pace at Indore, Jabalpur, Ujjain and Gwalior cities. A number of government agencies are cooperating with Urban Administration Department in development of cities. Better coordination between these agencies is a challenge. He also informed about Rs. 12 thousand crore metro rail projects of Bhopal and Indore. Director of Urban Administration Training Institute Prof. H.N. Mishra informed about institution’s activities.
