Efforts to increase installed power capacity

Bhopal: Intensive efforts are being made to increase installed capacity in view of increasing power demand in the state. At present, power generation capacity has increased to 9453 MW including 2940 MW of Central undertakings. A target has been set to increase power generation capacity by about 7012 MW till the end of financial year 2014-15. Works are in progress regarding increase in power generation capacity at power projects of Central and private sectors in the state.
Major projects coming up for increasing power generation capacity in the state include Madhya Pradesh Power Generating Company’s 1200 MW Shri Singaji thermal power project and extension units of 500 MW at Satpura thermal power plant, Sarni. Besides this, a number of projects are under construction in private sector including Essar’s 1200 MW project at Singrauli, JP Nigri’s 1320 MW project at Singrauli, JP Bina’s 2X250 MW project, BLA’s 45 MW project at Narsinghpur, Jhabua Power’s 1260 MW plant at Seoni and Moserbaer’s 1200 MW power plant in Anuppur.
Similarly, initial formalities are being completed for establishment of 1600 MW Dada Dhuni Wale Khandwa Power Limited’s project in Khandwa. Besides this, process has been started to set up a 1320 MW capacity power plant based on super critical technique under the second phase of Shri Singaji thermal power project by the MP Power Generating Company. Fiscal accounting for the project has been completed. Coal linkage for the project is expected from the Union Government.
Under the policy to promote private sector for establishing thermal power projects in the state, agreements have been signed with 38 companies for setting up projects to generate 61 thousand 800 MW power. Establishment of these projects will increase power generation in the state. Of these, two projects have started power generation. Besides this, the state has also started receiving share of generated power.
