Elected representatives cannot be election, polling and counting agents

Bhopal: Election Commission has banned appointment of Central and state government’s ministers, sitting MPs, MLAs, Mayors, Nagar Palika Chairpersons and Zila Panchayat Chairpersons as election, polling and counting agent of any candidate. The commission has issued directives in this regard to the CEO Office.

The commission has said that duty of officers and employees of the institutions of these public representatives is also fixed. This system must be enforced to ensure free and fair elections. The commission has clarified that public representatives cannot be appointed as election, polling and counting agent of any candidate whether they have been provided security or not.
