Equal opportunities for MP tribal and schedule caste students
BHOPAL: Higher Education and Technical Education Minister Shri Laxmikant Sharma addressed a seminar on “Tribal development in context of Madhya Pradesh” last Sunday here, where decision for opening engineering colleges at Jhabua and Shahdol has been taken.
He said that it is the need of the hour to move ahead in the direction of professional education and skill development for tribal development. He said that it is necessary to overcome the situation of backwardness in competitive exams that has cropped up due to lack of education of English.
Sharma informed that the State Government has decided to open engineering colleges in tribal-dominated Jhabua and Shahdol districts. Now, tribal students can also do away with lack of English knowledge by imbibing education of engineering, medicine, management and other higher education courses through Hindi medium at Atal Bihari Hindi Vishwavidyalaya, which is going to be opened in Madhya Pradesh.
The Higher Education and Technical Education Minister attended the seminar as a representative of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
The seminar was organised jointly by Madhya Pradesh Scheduled Tribes Commission and Madhya Pradesh Council of Science and Technology. Chairman of Madhya Pradesh Tribal Development Commission Shri Ramlal Rautel, MLAs Shri Premnarayan Thakur, Shri Rajendra Singh Dadu, Smt. Gita Uikey and large number tribal representatives were present on the occasion. The two-day seminar commencing from December 17 concluded today. The participants discussed priorities and strategies for tribal development.
The work of highlighting the role of tribal martyrs and revolutionaries in the freedom struggle has been undertaken only in Madhya Pradesh. The government has also decided to construct memorials of tribal martyrs and revolutionaries at their birth places. He exhorted society to prevent evil practices and pay special attention to daughters’ education.
He informed that Gudum musical instrument of Madhya Pradesh will be displayed for the first time at the national level at Republic Day Function.
