Gram Sabhas in phases from January 26 in Madhya pradesh
Bhopal: Gram Sabhas will be held in a phased manner in the state from January 26, 2014 as per provisions of Madhya Pradesh Panchayat Raj Evam Gram Swaraj Act, 1993. All Gram Panchayats will make public announcements for conveying information about Gram Sabha to villagers. Besides, its information will also be given on notice boards of Gram Panchayat offices and public places.
Apart from local issues, Gram Sabhas will discuss 16 important issues. Works being undertaken under Panch Parmeshwar Yojana and VRGF Scheme will be endorsed. Discussions will be held on self-taxation and recovery by Gram Panchayats. Discussions will be held on the ways of increasing awareness regarding prevention of crimes against women. Discussions will also be held on Standing committees of Gram Sabhas. Similarly, information about government schemes will be displayed on notice board of Gram Panchayat.
Besides, discussions will also be held on quality of education in schools under jurisdiction of Gram Panchayats and whether studies have been undertaken as per educational calendar. Admission of children in schools under School Chalen Ham Abhiyan and their regular attendance will be reviewed. If open-air defecation prevails in any village or dry toilets exist there then a unanimous proposal will be adopted to destroy the dry toilets and construct new toilets with leachpit technology. Discussions will be held to appoint people carrying night soil on head as sanitary workers in Gram Panchayats. Gram Sabhas will discuss and endorse proposals regarding construction of individual toilets through MNREGA convergence in villages having been freed from open-air defecation under Maryada Abhiyan to include work of solid and liquid waste management in shelf off projects. Proposals for construction of toilets for year 2013-14 and 2014-15 will be included shelf off projects of MNREGA. Gram Sabha will endorse arrangement of soap for hand washing in school from funds of Panch Parmeshwar Yojana.
The meetings will also undertake social audit of ongoing MNREGA works. Resolution will be passed to rid village of malnutrition and all children below 6 years of age, specially malnourished ones to Anganwadi centres. Awareness will be brought about for maintaining special sanitation for mid-day meal scheme in schools. Timely payments to beneficiaries under Social Security, Indira Gandhi National Old Age and other pension schemes will also be reviewed at Gram Sabhas
