Gujarat government on MP’s line, built intregrated check-posts

Bhopal: On the lines of Madhya Pradesh, the Gujarat Government will also make arrangements for tax recovery from commercial vehicles on inter-state roads and construct integrated check-posts. A delegation of Gujarat Transport Department’s Check-post Survey Committee arrived here today to study latest technique of operating 24 border check-posts in Madhya Pradesh and possibilities of implementing the scheme in Gujarat. The delegation held talks with senior officers and saw a presentation on procedure in this regard.
Fully equipped and computerised 24 border check-posts are under construction in Madhya Pradesh. The system will not only increase revenue of the State Government but will also save the time consumed in checking of commercial vehicles at inter-state check-posts. The computerised check-posts will recover Transport, Commercial, Forest, Mandi and Mineral Development departments’ taxes under one roof. Vehicle checking and tax recovery proceedings will be operated from centralised control rooms at Gwalior and Indore, which will eliminate chances of tax evasion. The Gujarat delegation held discussions with state’s officers in this regard. Team leader and former Gujarat Chief Secretary Shri Ashok Bhatia, Secretary Shri Kishore Trivedi and members saw a presentation. The delegation sought information about check-post system and satiated their queries.
It is noteworthy that construction of 24 check-posts and two centralised control rooms is being carried out by the Madhya Pradesh Road Development Corporation. The Gujarat officers were much impressed after coming to know about computerised operations concerning five departments at the same place, ensuring smooth movement of traffic, centralised control facility, storage of data at Indore, Gwalior and check-posts, parking, weighing etc. They expressed willingness to implement such arrangements in Gujarat also. The delegation will also hold discussions in this regard with Additional Chief Secretary Transport Shri Antony D’sa and other concerning officers. Giving information about benefits of Madhya Pradesh’s scheme, MPRDC Managing Director Shri Vivek Agrawal informed that the Planning Commission of India has declared Madhya Pradesh as the nodal state in this regard.
