Hamidia Hospital Employees Strike Against Ailing Wage Disbursement, Again

Something is definitely amiss with the system which forces poor employees to go without salaries for months

Bhopal

For the second time in less than two months, over 500 employees at the Hamidia Hospital, including ward boys and technicians, went on strike on Tuesday to register a protest against the tertiary facility’s refusal to heed their demands for the timely payment of their wages.

Notably, the employees had struck work in October to press for the release of months of wages owed to them by the hospital and a ‘contractor’ responsible for supplying staff to the mainstay medical facility in the city. The employees had returned to work after the hospital hurriedly released part of the wages to placate staff members.

Though the hospital attempted to play down the incident, the employees had vowed to strike again if a system for the timely release of their salaries was not worked out between the hospital and the contractor, who blames the hospital for recurring delays in the payment of employee wages.

On Tuesday, hundreds of employees sat on a dharna at the hospital premises to seek intervention and draw attention to their plight, which forces their families to suffer due to the apathy on the part of those who run the hospital.
