Identify new minor irrigation projects: CM
Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that potential of minor irrigation projects should be tapped upto to the maximum. He directed to identify minor projects which can be completed within span of one year. Shri Chouhan was reviewing activities of Water Resources Department after a meeting of Narmada Control Board here today.
Water Resources Minister Shri Jayant Malaiya, Revenue Minister Shri Rampal Singh, Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development Shri Lal Singh Arya and Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa were also present.
The Chief Minister said that projects should be completed with quality within time-limit. Programmes should be held to connect farmers with projects. Such events will inspire other farmers also to connect with and avail benefits of irrigation projects. He said that development-oriented atmosphere is generated by involving development-centric public representatives in development works.
The meeting was informed that against the target to enhance irrigation facility by one lakh hectares every year, Water Resources Department has expanded irrigation capacity by 2 lakh 75 thousand hectares during last 2 years. Till year 2014-15, total 252 minor projects have been completed. Remaining 244 are under construction. The department has proposed 500 minor and 25 medium projects apart from Ken-Betwa Link Project. It was informed that irrigation capacity in the state will increase upto 35 lakh hectares by year 2019 and 42 lakh hectares by year 2025.
At 51st meeting of Narmada Control Board, sanction was accorded to make green tribal-dominant Alirajpur area. Under the project, about 45 thousand hectares in 66 villages of Alirajpur will be made green. Sanction was accorded to Jobat Extension Micro Irrigation Project costing Rs. 156 crore 58 lakh to provide irrigation facility in 10 thousand hectares in 22 villages of Alirajpur. The Board also sanctioned Alirajpur Lift Irrigation Project costing Rs. 582 crore 80 lakh. Under the project water will be uplifted from backwater of Hathini River under Sardar Sarovar Dam and 35 thousand hectares will be irrigated with drips and sprinklers. The project will benefit tribal farmers in 44 villages. Administrative sanction was also accorded for Rs. 54 lakh for construction works of Simhastha and Narmada-Kaveri link project and Rs. 9 crore 38 lakh for construction of 4 ghats at Omkareshwar.
