IIT, NIT pass out SC, ST students felicitated
Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has called upon SC, ST students to work hard, be determined, courageous and move ahead. Do not consider themselves weak, do not lag behind others and become source of inspiration of others. Government stands by them at every step. It would not allow any hindrance in their studies. Shri Chouhan was felicitating the SC, ST students who have taken admission in IIT and NIT by clearing both prelims and main exam of IIT, at his residence here today. Students having cracked CLAT and taking admission in higher law institutes were also felicitated on the occasion.
Shri Chouhan gave a clarion call to the students to move ahead, brighten name of state and country and make it big in life. Immense change has been brought about in the academic environs in the state now as compared to period 10 years ago. Students of tribal areas of Madhya Pradesh have reached dizzy heights of success and brought laurels to the state.
Shri Chouhan said that the government wishes to bring smiles on the faces of people belonging to weaker sections and see them advance in every sector. Referring to efforts for SC, STs’ socio-economic and academic upliftment, Shri Chouhan said that 21 percent of total budget of the state will be allocated for development of tribals and 14 percent for scheduled castes.
The Chief Minister said that separate hostel facilities will be made available for schools and colleges. The government will bear entire expenses of students of these classes in engineering, medical and other higher education institutions. He said that free of cost food arrangements will also be made for students of class IX and XII. The government will give facility of renting room for students in cities for college level studies. The existing facilities for education will be enhanced further. Virtual classes will be started in all residential higher secondary school.
The Chief Minister said that SC, ST students securing 75 percent marks will also be given laptops. He exhorted the students to keep brightening name of the state by dint of their talent, hard work and dedication. We would not allow image of the state to be tainted. Efforts by some quarters in this regard will be foiled.
Shri Chouhan urged MLAs representing SC, ST constituencies to support talented students of their areas. Help them and see that they face no hurdle in moving ahead. Efforts are being made to tarnish image of Madhya Pradesh. Earlier, different sort of irregularities were made. We made efforts to streamline recruitment arrangements and got enquired whatever irregularities came to the fore.
SC, ST Welfare Minister Shri Gyan Singh said that results of these competitive exams have proved that tribal students of remote areas also have talents. He said that efforts under the leadership of the Chief Minister will boost morale of SC, ST students and they will be inspired to move ahead.
Shri Anand Kumar of Super-30 said that talent does not depend on support. Challenges need to be accepted with self-confidence. He said that education is available everywhere now. He assured of continuous cooperation to students in preparations for IIT exams. He said that academic atmosphere has improved under leadership of Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan. He urged the successful students to have spirit to return to society what it has given to them.
The felicitated students were presented Rs. 25 thousand each to purchase laptop, certificates and copies of “Wings of Fire”, the autobiography of former President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
In the welcome address, Principal Secretary Tribal Development Shri B.R. Naidu said that every possible facility and high level coaching is being made available to SC, ST students to prepare for competitive exams. He informed that counseling is on for admission in NIT. It is hoped that about 140 scheduled caste and 40 tribal students will get admission.
At the outset, the Chief Minister greeted the students by showering flower petals. On the occasion, merit holders of class X were also felicitated. They were presented scientific calculators and science dictionary. The Chief Minister also praised and felicitated teachers of the students.
A documentary on successful students’ life and hard work was also screened. The Chief Minister also felicitated Shri Anand Kumar of Super-30 and Shri Anirudhh Sinha of Gurukul Coaching Institute, Mumbai.
Minister of State for GAD Shri Lal Singh Arya, MLAs of tribal areas, Chief Secretary Shri Anthony de Sa, Commissioner Tribal Development Shri Umakant Umrao and large number of students were present on the occasion. Scheduled Castes Development Commissioner Shri J.L. Malpani proposed a vote of thanks.
