Indira Gandhi Maternity Assistance Scheme should be universalised

Bhopal: In a letter to Union Minister for Women and Child Development Smt. Maneka Gandhi, Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has urged that Indira Gandhi Maternity Assistance Scheme should be universalised and proposals for new anganwadi centres in state sanctioned at the earliest.
In the letter, the Chief Minister congratulated Smt. Maneka Gandhi for assuming office of a sensitive department like Women and Child Development and reiterated state government’s commitment to development of women and children.
The Chief Minister said that Indira Gandhi Maternity Assistance Scheme is being implemented in 2 districts of Madhya Pradesh. Through it, women are getting partial compensation against loss to wages during post-natal period. The scheme should be universalised so that all pregnant women can have time after delivery for rest and caretaking of child. Provisions under Food Security Act for women also will be fulfilled.
In the letter, the Chief Minister said that anganwadi centres are the first outposts for caretaking of pregnant women and lactating mothers and children. They should be universalised as per wish of the Supreme Court. He said that sanction is awaited for proposals sent by Madhya Pradesh government for about 11 thousand 120 new angwanwadi centres and 79 new projects. The Chief Minister urged Smt. Maneka Gandhi for early clearance of these proposals.
