Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar reservoir no threat to human life

Bhopal: Filling of Indira Sagar and Omkareshwar reservoir will put no threat to human lives. The filling is being done gradually keeping in view the safety and security of human lives on top priority. The related district administrations have been put on alert with a contingency plan to extend help in emergency situations. This was stated here today by Vice Chairman of Narmada Valley Development Authority and Principal Secretary of the Narmada Valley Development Department Rajneesh Vaish. He said that no Project Affected Family (PAF) would be deprived of rights under rehabilitation policy and their grievances would be heard sympathetically.

He informed that there were 44631 PAFs under Indira Sagar Project (ISP) and 6290 PAFs under Omkareshwar Project (OSP). The PAFs under ISP had been given compensation of Rs. 88508.44 Lacs and PAFs under OSP had been given compensation of Rs. 8668.68 Lacs for their immovable properties. In addition an amount of Rs. 23349.47 Lacs and of Rs. 2019.36 Lacs had been disbursed to ISP and OSP PAFs as Special Rehabilitation Grant respectively. Besides ISP PAFs received a total amount of Rs. 27375.98 Lacs as rehabilitation and transportation grant whereas OSP PAFS received Rs. 3116.17 Lacs as rehabilitation and transportation grant.

Vice Chairman informed that for the resettlement of displaced families a total of 46 rehabilitation sites have been developed with all basic amenities. Here a residential plot measuring 90ft by 60ft had been provided to each PAF free of cost. Families who opt not to take the plot had been given Rs. 20000/- in lieu of plot. Vaish said that a separate Grievance Redressal Authority (GRA) is also working for the Redressal of complaints of Project Affected Families.
