Iodised salt on concessional rates to over 25 lakh families

Bhopal : Iodised salt is being supplied on concessional rates in all the 89 tribal-dominated blocks in Madhya Pradesh for the last five years. APL, BPL and Antyodya ration card holders living in 20 districts are being supplied iodised salt at the rate of Rs. one per kilogram per ration card. The scheme is benefiting 25.75 lakh families belonging to these sections of society per month.

Objective of the scheme to make available iodised salt to tribal people to ensure their better health. Through the scheme, they will get requisite quantity of iodine needed for survival of life.

In the present context of salt quality, the State Government had decided to supply ISI Mark (Free flow) salt with 50 PPM iodine quantity for further improving quality of iodised salt. ISI mark refined salt is being supplied since July in attractive polyester packs. This salt is ultra white and purse with ISI standard.

Now, the State Government will make available about Rs. 22 crore grant every year for iodised salt. Process is underway to distribute iodised salt to 28 lakh 52 thousand 719 families on the basis of number of new ration cards.
