Lower Lake to be world-level water sports centre: Gaur

Bhopal: Home and Jail Minister Shri Babulal Gaur has directed to develop Lower Lake as a world-level water sports centre. Necessary works for establishment this should be included in detailed project report being chalked out for the Lower Lake. Shri Gaur was reviewing lake conservation works here today. Principal Secretary Urban Administration & Development Shri S.N. Mishra, Secretary Shri Sanjay Shukla, Commissioner Town & Country Planning Shri Gulshan Bamra, Collector Shri Nishant Warwade and officers of various departments were present on the occasion.

Shri Gaur said that All-India Kayaking and Canoeing Competition was held recently in the Lower Lake successfully. The Lower Lake situated in the heart of the city is worthy of becoming world-level water sports centre. Shri Gaur said that about Rs. 500 crore will be received for development of all lakes in Bhopal. All concerning departments should jointly consider their proposals in this regard and prepare lake’s detailed project report at the earliest. It will be get approved as a special project under 14th Finance Commission.

Shri Gaur said that it should also be kept in view while undertaking lake conservation works as to which lake is suitable for which kind of activities. Referring to tourism potential at Hathaikhera Dam, he said that work in this direction has been started. Construction of a developed modern tourist centre should be included in this dam’s DPR.

Directives were given to complete demarcation of lakes’ boundaries and install marks within 2 and a half months. Shri Gaur directed Collector Bhopal to decide that demarcation of one lake will be completed every week. Municipal corporation officers informed that marking poles are to be installed in 23 kilometer area. Directives were given to ensure privacy of women during bath at lake ghats.

Shri Gaur directed that after lakes’ conservation and development, work of cleaning and reviving baodis of Bhopal district should be undertaken. Shri Gaur said that traffic police should inspect and decide whether large rotaries are required and if necessary, what will be their size. Unwanted rotaries should be removed and large ones’ size should be reduced. Statues installed at rotaries should be shifted to nearby place. Besides, a statue park should be constructed where statutes from various rotaries can be shifted.
