Madhya Pradesh polls: Arif Masood announced Congress’s candidate from Bhopal Central

Bhopal: Arif Masood will be Congress’s candidate for the 2018 Madhya Pradesh Assembly polls from Bhopal Central. Masood, who was in race with other aspirants, finally managed to gain party ticket from the seat once again. He lost the seat to BJP candidate Surendra Nath Singh in previous Assembly elections.
The latest list includes names of 13 candidates including Masood. Among others, the list, which was approved by central election committee of Congress and released by the AICC general secretary Mukul Wasnik, also has name of Deepak Saxena. He will contest from Chhindwara, the bastion of Congress state chief Kamal Nath.
Bhopal Central was created during delimitation of assembly and Lok Sabha seat ahead of 2008 elections. It was among three new seats created in Bhopal due to delimitation.
BJP candidate Dhruv Narayan Singh defeated Congress’s candidate Nasir Islam in 2008 by a difference of just 2.45% votes. In 2013, BJP retained the seat with Surendra Nath Singh beating Masood. While Singh garnered 70,696 votes, Masood could manage 63,715 votes losing by a difference of 5.09%.
Congress so far has released three lists of candidates for Madhya Pradesh polls. It has released a list of 155 candidates on Saturday and followed it up with another list comprising 16 candidates.
Madhya Pradesh Assembly elections will be held on November 28 and the results are scheduled to be announced on December 11.
