Women among those injured, say sources in the Opposition party

Bhopal

Seven Congress leaders were injured on Monday when a stage collapsed during a protest against the Madhya Pradesh government’s alleged “anti-farmer” policies near Rangmahal Square in Bhopal.

The leaders were addressing a crowd before marching towards the Assembly when the stage gave way. Despite the accident, Congress workers continued their march before being barricaded off the route.

Sources in the Congress party said at least five women were among the injured, and three to four people sustained serious wounds. He identified some of them as Kisan Congress president Dharmendra Singh Chauhan, Jitu Patwari’s political advisor Rajiv Singh, and state unit general secretary Roshani Yadav.

They suggested that the stage collapsed due to overcrowding but said the party was investigating the matter.

Later in the day the district administration reiterated prohibitory orders that had been put in place ahead of the assembly session.
