Fear prevails in the Jeelang village of Dindori, Madhya Pradesh, where a mysterious illness killed septuagenarian Bazarina Bai and her 22-year-old son Brajilal Baiga on the same day.

Not surprisingly, residents in the village, dominated by the protected Baiga tribe, are shocked by the incident. Several theories were circulating in the hamlet as the extremely backward residents tried to make sense of the unfortunate coincidence.

Following the incident, there was panic within the administrative departments. As soon as information about the case emerged, several officials had to walk to the village, as it lacks road access.

Collector Harsh Singh directed Dindori SDM Ram Babu Devangan to travel to Jeelang with health officials. However, due to the lack of roads leading to the village, the officials had to rely on tractors and also walk to reach the village deep inside a forest.

The mother-son duo died of a mysterious illness on September 22; the two deaths created an atmosphere of fear in the village. Additionally, about four to five other villagers were ill, and they have since undergone health checks and received medication.

Jeelang village is home entirely to members of the Baiga tribe.
