No lack of talent in C’garh, says CM

Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel on Friday said there is no lack of talent in Chhattisgarh’s children and they only needed to be given better opportunities to shine.

Baghel was addressing an award ceremony of the Rajiv Gandhi Bal Bhavishya Suraksha Prayas Residential School on the occasion of the martyrdom day of freedom fighter Shaheed Veer Narayan Singh.

Earlier, the Chief Minister paid floral tributes to a portrait of Veer Narayan Singh. Tribal Welfare Minister Premsai Singh, Industries Minister Kawasi Lakhma, Tribal Welfare Secretary D.D. Singh and Commissioner Shammi Abidi were present at the event.

In 2021, 27 students of Prayas School succeed in IIT entrance, 35 have got admission in NIT and equivalent educational institutions, five in CS Foundation, two in CLAT and 61 in engineering colleges.

The Chief Minister awarded cheques of Rs 50,000 each to the students to buy a laptop.

Later, Baghel said that Veer Narayan Singh was a true gem of Chhattisgarh. He was a zamindar of Sonakhan, who deeply cared about the poor and needy.

In 1854-55, when there was a famine, he borrowed grain from the Malguzar of Kasdol and distributed it among the people.

He became a target of British oppression. He had encounters with the British at Sonakhan, Saraipali and Basna and forced the British to withdraw. But he was arrested and hanged at Jaistambh Chowk in Raipur.
