One Attempts Suicide, Another Kills himself in Police Station

Heavy police force has been deployed in Datia district where a perturbed mob took to stone-pelting after hearing about a person committing suicide in a police lock-up on Tuesday, said reports citing officials.

“Mumbai police had Tuesday arrested two people, Annu Pathan and Aqueel, in connection with a case of dacoity. They were handed over to the local police,” a police officer was quoted as saying by IANS.

“Both of them attempted suicide by hanging themselves. Annu Pathan died in the lock-up while Aqueel was admitted to a nearby hospital and is critical,” the officer added.

After locals knew about the incident, they pelted stones at the police station and vandalized vehicles parked outside, said report.

Additional police force was rushed to the spot and the situation was brought under control.

In another incident at Jabalpur, a murder suspect tried to kill himself inside the police station, reported IANS. Five policemen were suspended after the incidence.

The report said that Ashok Gaur attempted to commit suicide inside the bathroom of Hanuman Tal police station in Jabalpur city late Tuesday. He was rushed to a nearby hospital where his condition is stable.

He was brought to the police station for interrogation in a murder case.

“Five policemen on duty have been suspended for laxity. An inquiry has been initiated to find out how and why the suspect attempted to commit suicide,” Jabalpur Superintendent of Police Anant Kumar Singh was quoted as saying by IANS.
