One more international award for Madhya Pradesh
Bhopal. After getting the world wide recognition for improving public services, Madhya Pradesh has got another award for for providing better water and sanitation facility to the people. This award has been given on 21 june at Brazil’s capital city Rio-de-jeneario for Pan in Van Approach development in Madhya Pradesh. The approach was launched by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan on February 13, 2009. The van has been developed with the cooperation of UNICEF by Energy, Environment and Development Society (EEDS). Smt. Ashu Saxena of EEDS has been honoured with the second prize at international level for this innovation. Earlier, the Approach was also invited to 6th World Water Forum held in France from Marcy 12 to 17 for presentation. Various countries have lauded the Approach development especially for women. Awareness about water and sanitation was created through this Van in Pan Approach in 80 Gram Panchayats of Khandwa, Khargone and Dhar Zila Panchayats. People of about 240 villages were made aware of diseases spread by filthy water and importance of clean water through this innovative method. Zila Panchayats selected such backward villages for the Approach, which are being developed as Nirmal Panchayats. Large number of rural women and local people participated in the Approach. Successful results came out of the efforts made thorough Pan in Van Approach for giving on the spot education to villagers from February 2009 to March 2011. Pan in Van is a van equipped with most modern techniques like audio-video, publicity material and sports goods. It is manned by trainer and other staff who stay in a village for three to four days and convey message of sanitation to villagers in a planned manner. The Approach has become a powerful and effective medium for conveying message of sanitation to small children, senior citizens, women and disabled persons. About 10-15 such training tools have been evolved which impart education with entertainment. Most prominent is the Kick to Keetanu Tool (Football match), which has been lauded at every level. Through this game, information about water-borne diseases like diarrhea and typhoid is provided in simple and easy way. Here, It is necessary to mentioned that Madhya Pradesh has recently got a award by United Nations for improving the delievary of Public Services.
