Over 3000 vehicles checked on First day of Campaign

Bhopal. In compliance to the directives of Minister for Home and Transport Shri Bhupendra Singh, a special campaign to check passenger buses has been launched in the state from September 1. Revenue amount over Rs. 18 lakh 50 thousand was collected after surprise checking of 3 thousand 204 passenger buses and fitness permit of 140 vehicles were cancelled at the first day of the campaign.

As per the directives of the Minister Shri Singh and under the guidance of Commissioner Transport Shri Shailendra Shrivastava, the special campaign is being carried out till September 15 in all the districts of the state against those who are violating provisions of Motor Vehicle Act and playing with lives of passengers.

At the first day of the campaign, 3,204 vehicles were checked in all the 51 districts of the state. Penalty of Rs. 3 lakh 57 thousand and 200 was collected from 262 vehicles for overloading. Whereas, fitness of 3,113 vehicles were checked and fitness certificate of 140 vehicles were cancelled on account unfitness. Similarly, pressure horns of 309 vehicles were removed and reflectors were put up in 242 vehicles. Also, windows were fixed in 183 vehicles found without emergency windows. 149 vehicles without PUC were penalized with Rs. 3 lakh 48 thousand 500. Similarly, 63 uninsured vehicles were penalized of Rs. 54 thousand and speed governors were fixed in 63 school vans. Also action was taken against 226 vehicles found without two doors by the transport team under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Commissioner Transport Shri Shailendra Shrivastava said that bus owner is responsible for protection of lives of passengers. Passenger vehicles are registered under the Motor Vehicle Act. Hence, duty to adhere to the instructions under the provisions of the Motor Vehicle Act is the responsibility of the owners and their employees. Keeping in account complaints received by the department as regard to violation of the Act, the campaign is being under taken. All the transport officers with their subordinates are conducting surprise checking of passenger buses and action is ensured against those who are violating the provisions of the Act.0
