Over 46 thousand Village Health Committees for effective health facilities

Bhopal: The State Government is constituting Village Health Committees for ensuring effective health services in rural areas of the state. So far, 46 thousand 197 committees have been constituted. A total of 51 thousand Village Health Committees are to be constituted in the state. Each committee will have Rs. 10 thousand fund at its disposal.
Each Village Health Committee will comprise 20 members. Woman member will head the committee while Panchayat Secretary and ASHA, Anganwadi worker will be Joint Secretary and Treasurer, respectively. Other members of the committee will include woman panch, ASHA, Anganwadi worker, Chairperson of Matra Sahyogi Samiti, representative of mid-day meal group and handpump mechanic of concerning village.
An ambitious scheme to impart training to members of these committees has also been introduced in October 2012. In the first phase, 34 state-level master trainers and 86 state trainers were trained. Besides, process of training 9000 district trainers has been started in November. These trainers will impart training to members of Village Health Committees from January 2013. Each member will be imparted training for three days. Two lakh 30 thousand members will be trained till March 2013 and remaining members till July 2013. Special emphasis has been laid in the training mainly on various activities under the National Rural Health Mission, sanitation, clean drinking water and supplementary diet.
Major responsibilities of Village Health Committees will be to provide material for Village Health Centre, register, attendance register, radio set for village-level ASHA Listeners Club, wall painting for publicity, sanitation at drinking water source, maintenance of garbage bin, referral of serious patients, promoting kitchen garden for removing malnutrition etc.
Emphasis has been laid for effective coordination between the Woman & Child Development, Rural Development and Public Health Engineering departments in implementation of this scheme of the Public Health & Family Welfare Department.
