Preparation to fight against industrial disaster
DHENKANAL: Taking in view the Bhopal gas tragedy, the industry-rich Dhenkanal district has initiated a move to keep itself prepared for any kind of industrial disaster.
As a precautionary measure, the district crisis group (DCG), headed by the collector has started listing out the kind of harmful chemicals used in industries, their storage, routes of their transportation, medical services, fire fighting facilities etc.
Dhenkanal has emerged as one of the major industrial hubs with about 65 varieties of factories at different stages of production. These industries are using major hazardous chemicals like LPG, propane, LDO/HFO, benzol, coal, BF gas and coke oven gas, which can pose threat to lives.
Thousands of heavy vehicles carry the industrial inputs and output through the NH- 55 connecting Cuttack and Sambalpur.
To sensitize the staff working in the District, a mock drill was recently conducted at different industrial complexes with the help of experts.
