Residents protest demolition notices, meet Collector
The demolition is planned to make way for a railway line
Bhopal
Amid displacement fears, a large number of people from Subhash Nagar and Moti Nagar shanties on Monday reached the Collectorate office in protest of a proposed demolition drive in the area.
The district administration has issued notices to 381 homes and nearly a hundred shops which have been earmarked for demolition due to construction of the fourth railway line connecting Khandwa to Itarsi and then from Itarsi to Bhopal via Bina.
Protesting residents said they have been receiving notices from MP Nagar SDM LK Khare.
Led by Congress leader Manoj Shukla, the protesters surrounded the Collectorate and told Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh that repeated notices from the district administration are causing them grave distress.
Shukla reminded the Collector of promises made by former chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan who had told residents that they would be resettled at the same location.
The new four-line track through Bhopal and Itarsi will connect to the four-line track being constructed between Bhusawal and Khandwa.
