Sale of liquor to be banned 48 hours before polling

Bhopal: Election Commission has issued directives regarding ban on sale of liquor before polling for second phase of Lok Sabha elections in the state on 17. According to the Election Commission, sale of country-made liquor, IMFL or any spirited intoxicant at hotels, restaurants, shops or any other place will be banned 48 hours before polling. The commission has directed for strict compliance of legal provisions under Representation of People Act 1951 to prohibit sale and distribution of liquor on polling day. During 48 hours before end of polling in any constituency, sale and distribution of spirit-based liquor, intoxicant or any substance of the same nature will be prohibited in hotels, restaurants, schools, shops and any other public and private place. Violator of the prohibition will be liable for 6 months’ imprisonment or Rs. 2 thousand fine or both.

Dry day will also be declared as per provisions of Madhya Pradesh Excise Act. Directives have been given to keep special watch over inter-state borders during this period.

The constituencies where polling will be held on April 17 . These constituencies are Morena, Bhind, Gwalior, Guna, Sagar, Tikamgarh, Damoh, Khajuraho, Bhopal and Rajgarh. Polling will be held from 7 am to 6 pm.
