Senior citizens to get special facilities in government hospitals

Bhopal: Senior citizens in the state will get special facilities in the government hospitals. All CMHOs and superintendents of Government hospitals have been ordered to ensure facilities to the senior citizens.
The Directorate of Health has ordered that in every hospital a separate counter for registration of senior citizens should be provided, Senior citizens should be treated free of cost. Besides, there should be separate queue for senior citizens for distribution of medicines. Priority should be given to the senior citizens for pathological tests, X-ray and other tests and this order should be written outside the laboratories.
Benches should be placed especially for the senior citizens at OPDs, reception, outside testing laboratories, etc and also at the places where relatives of patients wait. In every hospital at least two beds each for male and female senior citizens should be reserved.
An NGO, Rashtraheet Jagriti Gandhivadi Prayas (RJGP) initiated a drive for special facilities to senior citizens at government hospitals. RJGP secretary Shyam Narayan Chokse said it had been usually witnessed that senior citizens have to stand in long queues for registration and medicines.
Chokse said the organization wrote letters to Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Public Health and Family Welfare Minister Narottam Mishra, MP Human Rights Commission chairman Justice (retd) AK Saxena and the then Health Services director, Dr AN Mittal, following which the Health department approved the demands on humanitarian grounds.
In all hospitals in Delhi/ NCR, special facilities are being provided to the senior citizens. Now this noble work has been initiated in MP too.
