SI kills himself due to financial difficulties
Overworked and underpaid, mental health issues among law enforcers is a global phenomenon
Bhopal
A Sub Inspector (SI) of the Madhya Pradesh Police hanged himself to death in the garage of his home at the 25th Battalion at Bhadbhada under Kamla Nagar police jurisdiction on Friday.
A suicide note, ascribing the extreme step to mental stress stemming from financial difficulties, has been recovered by investigators.
Deceased Anil Nagerao (55), was posted at the State Garage, he lived with his family at the police quarters where his body was found hanging by his son.
Rising incidents of suicide and violence involving men in uniform point towards growing mental health issues among the police force which experts have long attributed to work pressure.
Though police administrators have launched various mental health programmes for the force over the last decade, law enforcers continue to remain overworked and underpaid.
