Workshop at MANIT Bhopal Highlights Women’s Digital Safety

Top police official attends as chief guest

On the eve of the International Women’s Day, Maulana Azad National Institute of Technology (MANIT) hosted a workshop on ‘Safer Digital Space – A Right for Every Woman and Girl’ to raise awareness about cyber security and online threats.

Coordinated by Prof Meenu Chawla and Prof Sweta Jain from the CSE Department, the event was part of the ISEA Project Phase III, an initiative by MEITY, Government of India. Experts discussed ways to protect women and girls from cybercrimes.

Chief guest Irmeen Shah, Assistant Inspector General (Training) and Superintendent of Police, ITI Bhopal, shared valuable insights on digital safety and ways to prevent cyber frauds targeting women.

She warned against threats like SIM cloning, phishing, fake job offers, and digital arrest. She advised participants not to store sensitive data on mobile phones and to use a separate account for online transactions.

Prof Meenu Chawla outlined the event’s key objectives, while Prof Sweta Jain concluded with a vote of thanks. Dean (Faculty Welfare) Prof Alka Bharat and HoD CSE RK Pateriya were also present.

Faculty, staff, and students engaged in discussions, seeking expert advice on staying safe in the digital world. The session emphasised the importance of digital literacy for women’s empowerment.
