Happiness is as fundamental as day and night, said Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday at the National Happiness Seminar, reaffirming his government’s commitment to spreading joy and well-being across Madhya Pradesh.

Speaking at the two-day event at Kushabhau Thakre Auditorium, Yadav stressed that true happiness comes from selflessness, sacrifice, and devotion. He highlighted the government’s role in ensuring prosperity for all, stating that welfare schemes must ultimately lead to people’s satisfaction and joy.

The seminar saw participation from intellectuals and spiritual leaders, including Swami Samarpanananda from Ramakrishna Mission, Prof Rajneesh Arora of Punjab Technical University, and N Ravichandran, former director of IIM Indore. Discussions revolved around mental peace, cultural values, and the philosophy of happiness in governance.

An MoU was signed between the State Happiness Institute and MP Jan Abhiyan Parishad, formalising a collaboration that has already impacted thousands of lives. Yadav described it as more than a document—an initiative to integrate happiness into policymaking and social welfare programmes.

Swami Samarpanananda spoke about gratitude and service, calling them essential to inner peace. He praised Madhya Pradesh’s pioneering Happiness Department, urging people to embrace tradition and cultivate spiritual joy through simple, meaningful actions.

Prof Rajneesh Arora and N Ravichandran echoed similar views, stating that happiness should reflect in one’s actions. They emphasised duty, sincerity, and a content mind as key to a fulfilling life, underscoring how societal evolution shapes people’s pursuit of joy.

Principal Secretary Raghvendra Kumar Singh outlined the seminar’s objectives, reaffirming the state’s dedication to promoting happiness through innovative initiatives. The event also featured discussions on new strategies to enhance well-being, ensuring that happiness remains central to governance.
