Strong network of agricultural education ready in C’garh: CM
A strong network to provide agricultural education is ready in Chhattisgarh, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Wednesday, as he inaugurated four horticulture colleges and a Krishi Vigyan Kendra.
The new colleges opened in Saja (Bemetra district), Arjunda (Balod), Dhamtari (Jashpur) and Lormi (Mungeli district). The new Krishi Vigyan Kendra opened in Kondagaon.
Speaking from his residential office, Baghel said that when Chhattisgarh was formed, it had only one institute to impart agriculture education: Indira Gandhi Agriculture University.
“Today the state has 46 colleges of agriculture and horticulture education, eight research centres and 27 agriculture science centres operating under this university,” he said.
The opening of agricultural colleges and agricultural science centres will benefit the farmers with advanced technology and developing agriculture related economic activities, which would raise their standard of living, he said.
Wednesday’s event was organized through video conferencing on the 35th Foundation Day of Indira Gandhi Agricultural University.
The Chief Minister inaugurated and laid foundation for infrastructure development works worth Rs 115 crores in the agricultural colleges, agricultural science centres and new agricultural colleges.
These works include construction of agricultural college buildings, boys’ hostels, research centres, hi-tech nurseries, seed processing buildings, hatcheries, administrative buildings in the science centres and farmers’ hostels.
Baghel also released a Digital Krishi Panchang and Krishi Darshika 2021 prepared by the Indira Gandhi Agricultural University.
“We have sanctioned funds for the agricultural colleges which did not have college buildings and hostels,” Baghel said.
“We are looking forward to establishing new agricultural science centres in Gaurela-Pendra-Marwahi and Saja. A proposal has been sent to the Centre,” he added.
Baghel said the Chhattisgarh government is paying special attention towards expansion of agricultural education.
Agriculture Minister Ravindra Choubey, Food Minister Amarjeet Bhagat, Industries Minister Kawasi Lakhma, Women and Child Development Minister Anila Bhendia and Indira Gandhi Agricultural University Vice Chancellor Dr. S. K. Patil were present on the occasion.
