Students of tribal areas to benefit: CM

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that opening of medical and engineering colleges in Shahdol division will directly benefit students of tribal areas. Students will become doctors and engineers by pursuing education in these medical and technical colleges and serve the state. Shri Chouhan was laying foundation stones for Rs. 400 crore medical college and Rs. 25 crore engineering college at divisional headquarters Shahdol today. Minister of State for Forests Shri Jai Singh Marawi, Rajya Sabha Member Shri Prabhat Jha, MLAs Shri Sundar Singh, Shri Bali Singh and Shri Dilip Singh were also present on the occasion.

The Chief Minister said that no medical college was started in the state after 1962. In view of medical education’s importance, the existing State Government set up a medical college first at Sagar and now foundation stone for medical college has been laid at Shahdol. Shri Chouhan said that opening of these colleges will facilitate students of tribal areas to pursue medical and technical education. The Chief Minister said that 4000 people will also get direct and indirect employment with opening of these institutions. He said that efforts are also being made to set up a nursing college at Shahdol. Referring to facilities being extended to students belonging to reserved classes in the state, the Chief Minister said that the State Government is providing better facilities to them to imbibe higher education. Arrangements at government expenses have also been made for foreign studies for students of these classes. He said that State Government has decided to extend higher education loans to students easily. Loan guarantee to banks will be given by the State Government.
He said that 150 MBBS students will be able to take admission in this medical college, which will have 22 departments. A 300-bed hospital will also be constructed where surgery, pediatrics, gynaecology and other diseases’ departments will be set up. As many as 200 medical professors, associate professors, assistant professors, demonstrators, seniors and residents will be appointed in the college apart from 1200 staff nurses and about 250 paramedical and other staff. It will have 4 lecture rooms, a large 350 seat lecture hall and 750-seat auditorium. Besides, air-conditioned library and exam hall will also be constructed in 2400 square meter area.
The hospital will have all test facilities including pathology, micro-biology, bio-chemistry, X-ray, sonography etc. Ultramodern test facilities like CT scan and MRI will also be provided. Modular operation theatre and OT and modular kitchen for patients will also be constructed. There will be canteen facility for students. Hostel will also be constructed apart from residential complex for doctors, nurses and staff.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan went round Shahdol district hospital also. District collector apprised him about works carried out in medical field. The Chief Minister held discussions with people about facilities being extended in the district hospital.
