Westergaard’s Somali Attacker First Arrested in Kenya: Danish Media

Reports in the Danish media say the 28-year-old Somali man, who attacked Danish artist Kurt Westergaard for an offensive portrayal of Prophet Muhammad in a cartoon, was previously arrested in Kenya for a terror plot but was later let-off due to lack of evidence.

Denmark’s ambassador to Kenya, Bo Jensen, speaking to the Ritzau news agency, however, said that the man was arrested in Kenya for incomplete travel documents and added that Kenyan authorities never told the embassy that the man was suspected in a terror plot.

The armed suspect was charged with attempted murder Saturday after he broke into Westergaard’s home in the Danish second city of Aarhus.
