India vs Australia: Mitchell Johnson takes a jibe at Virat Kohli’s ‘playing without an altercation’ remark

Ahead of the departure of the Indian team for the impending Australia tour that starts November 21, Indian skipper Virat Kohli said that he would want a sledge-free summer in Australia, but added that if they initiate the altercation, “we will reciprocate in that way”. And in response to the very same words, former Australian pacer Mitchell Johnson took a hilarious jibe at Kohli.

Kohli is known for his aggressive nature on the field, but the 30-year-old said that the team would depend more on its ability in the upcoming Test series against Australia. “When it comes to getting engaged in an argument on the field, or in a fight as people want to call it excitedly, I have been completely OK playing without an altercation,” Kohli told in the pre-departure presser. “If they want to play a certain way we will reciprocate in that way, that’s how the game of cricket goes.”

Fox Sports Cricket tweeted Kohli press conference on the same on Twitter and in reply to it, Johnson wrote, “I look forward to no Virat send offs”.

That sure did reignite the flames of the controversy that the two cricketers shared in India’s 2014 tour of Australia in the Test match at MCG. Johnson had aimed the stumps, but the ball hit Kohli who was standing at the striker’s end thus triggering a few verbal exchanges.

However, the present Australian team have a revamped culture at the onset of the humiliating ball-tampering act in South Africa that witnessed the ban of Steve Smith and David Warner for a year. The absence of the two big stars from the Australian side give India a better chance at bagging a historic Test series win Down Under. In their last visit, despite Kohli standing out with his glorious 692 runs in the four-match series, India had lost 0-2 against Australia.
