IPL 2019 auction: Yuvraj Singh is possibly Mumbai Indians’ biggest buy in IPL history, says Aakash Ambani

“To be honest, we had budgeted a lot more for Yuvraj and Malinga. At Rs one crore, a player like Yuvraj is probably a (biggest) steal of 12 (sic) years. He has won every trophy there is to be won,” Ambani told the broadcaster of the auction.
The Mumbai Indians had also brought back 35-year-old Sri Lankan Lasith Malinga in the auction for his base price of Rs 2 crore. Many were left surprised by their decision to pick an ageing, injury prone fast bowler in the IPL auction. But Akash claimed that the team were trying to focus on experience while buying them.
“Yuvi and Malinga are very critical players. We focussed on experience a lot. We’ve identified specific roles for both of them,” Akash explained.
Mumbai Indians went into the auctions with a settled squad. They had retained their captain Rohit Sharma and India internationals Hardik Pandya, Jasprit Bumrah, Krunal Pandya along with several other players like Kieron Pollard, Ben Cutting and Evin Lewis. In the auction, they picked up 6 players including Yuvraj and Malinga. The other four players were Pankaj Jaiswal, Rasikh Dar, Anmolpreet Singh and Barinder Sran
