Women’s T20 World Cup prize money increased by 225%: Champion team will get Rs 19.5 crore, tournament will start from October 3
A prize money of Rs 66.62 crore will be distributed in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 starting on October 3 in the UAE. The ICC said on Tuesday that the champion team will get Rs 19.59 crore and the runner-up team will get Rs 9.79 crore.
There has been a 225% increase in the prize money compared to the 2023 Women’s T20 World Cup. The team that wins the title has been announced to be given 134% more money than before. The runner-up team will also get 134% more money than before. The 2023 winner Australia received Rs 8 crore.
ICC will give equal prize money to men’s and women’s team. This time the prize money will be given equal to the men’s team. A total prize money of Rs 93.52 crore was distributed in the men’s team, but 20 teams participated in it. At the same time, prize money of Rs 66.62 crore will be distributed in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2024. 10 teams will participate in it. Last year, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced equal prize money for the men’s and women’s teams in ICC tournaments.
ICC President Greg Barclay said that this step is a big one in the history of cricket. We have been continuously working towards this since 2017. Since 2017, we have been continuously increasing the prize money and match fees in women’s cricket. From now on, winning the ICC Women’s World Cup will get the same prize money as the Men’s World Cup. The same will be true for the T20 and Under-19 World Cups.
The tournament will be played from October 3 Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will start from October 3 in UAE. The first match will be played between Bangladesh and Scotland. 10 teams will participate in this World Cup. 23 matches will be held in 18 days. India is in Group A with 6-time champion Australia. Apart from this, this group includes Pakistan, New Zealand and Sri Lanka.
The top two teams from both groups will reach the semi-finals . The first semi-final will be played in Dubai on 17 October and the second semi-final will be played in Sharjah on 18 October. The final will be played in Dubai on 20 October.
