Nokia 7 Plus, Nokia 6 2018, Nokia 8 Sirocco expected to launch in India on April 4

MD Global is holding an event on April 4 in New Delhi where the company is expected to launch some new Nokia phones. After launching the Nokia 1 Android Oreo Go Edition smartphone in the country earlier this week at Rs 5,499, HMD will likely bring the other three smartphones that it announced at MWC 2018 last month. This includes the Nokia 6 (2018), Nokia 7 Plus and the Nokia 8 Sirocco. The first two are expected to come with mid-range pricing while the latter is expected to carry a premium price tag.

The company has sent out invites to the media for the event, but as of now it is still uncertain whether it will launch all three smartphones. The possibility of the Nokia 6 (2018) and the Nokia 7 Plus being launched is higher than the Nokia 8 Sirocco, but the company could bring all three of them as India is one of its most important markets. All three phones were first unveiled at MWC 2018 late February where the company also announced they would be available globally in April. One of the biggest highlights is that all three Nokia phones (and all future Nokia phones from Nokia 3 upwards) are part of the Android One initiative, which means they will come with the purest form of Android with support for timely updates for at least two years.

The Nokia 8 Sirocco is the first flagship smartphone from the company this year and comes with an all new design language compared to last year’s Nokia 8. The handset sports glass on the front and back with a stainless steel frame in between. It sports a 5.5-inch Quad HD pOLED display with an 18:9 aspect ratio with a curved Gorilla Glass 5 on top. It is powered by last year’s flagship Snapdragon 835 processor paired with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of non-expandable storage. Additionally, the handset houses a 3,250mAh battery and supports the Qi Wireless charging standard.

The Nokia 7 Plus is an updated version of the Nokia 7 and also sports an 18:9 display. The 6-inch FHD+ panel is protected by Gorilla Glass and the handset is crafted from a single block of Series 600 aluminium with copper accents around the camera and the frame. The Nokia 7 Plus is powered Snapdragon 660 processor paired with 4GB of RAM. It houses a 3,800mAh battery which Nokia claims is good for 2 days of mixed use. The Nokia 7 Plus also supports face unlock and AI imaging features like the ability to modify lighting conditions and add masks. Both the Nokia 8 Sirocco and the Nokia 7 Plus sport ZIESS-branded dual rear cameras with a 12MP primary sensor and a 13MP secondary sensor for 2X optical zoom. Both the phones also support OZO Audio which allows for 360 degree audio recording and Bothie.

The Nokia 6 (2018) is a refreshed version of the Nokia 6 from last year and is also an Android One smartphone. It sports a 5.5-inch FullHD IPS LCD display and is powered by a Snapdragon 630 processor paired with either 3 or 4GB of RAM depending on the variant and a 3,000mAh battery with fast charging support. As far as optics are concerned, the Nokia 6 comes with a 16MP rear camera with ZEISS optics and an 8MP front-facing camera with support for Bothie and Nokia 360 spatial audio.

Last year, HMD Global tried to price its mid-range and flagship smartphone quite competitively, and the company will be expected to do so this time around as well. While we will have to wait for the event on April 4 to officially confirm the pricing, we expect the Nokia 6 (2018) to cost below Rs 20,000, the Nokia 7 Plus to be priced under Rs 30,000 and the Nokia 8 Sirocco to be placed somewhere around Rs 45,000.
