Omkareshwar reservoir level to be kept at 189 meters at present

Bhopal: Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan has said that water level of Omkareshwar reservoir will be kept at 189 meters at present. A high-level committee of the State Government will hear problems of Omkareshwar Dam-affected people. Shri Chouhan held direct dialogue with affected farmers of village Ghoghalgaon, Kewla Buzurg, Aikhand and Kamankhera at his residence here today. Farmers put forth their views openly.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that sincere efforts will be made and a solution to problems narrated by affected farmers will be found. For this, the State Government is constituting a high-level committee. It will comprise Commerce and Industries Minister Shri Kailash Vijaywargiya, SC, ST Welfare Minister Kunwar Vijay Shah, Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development Shri K.L. Agrawal, Principal Secretary Narmada Valley Development Shri Rajneesh Vaish and Indore divisional commissioner. He said that compliance of order given by Grievances Redressal Authority about giving land for land to farmers surrendering 50 percent amount of compensation will be ensured within 90 days.

Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that larger interests of Madhya Pradesh are linked with Narmada Valley. At the same time, it is also priority of the State Government to safeguard submergence-affected people. The State Government stands by the affected people and will make every possible effort to solve their problems despite the that fact 20 thousand hectare area will be derived of irrigation and the state will be deprived of 120 MW power by maintaining Omkareshwar reservoir at 189 meters. Commerce and Industries Minister Shri Kailash Vijaywargiya, Minister of State for Narmada Valley Development, Omkareshwar MLA Shri Lokendra Singh Tomar and Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram were also present on the occasion.
