November 3, 2009 Visionmp.com news service

Uttar Pradesh chief secretary has tendered an unconditional apology to the Supreme Court for allegedly infringing its order and an undertaking given by him in which he pledged to stop the ongoing construction work of memorials and installation of statues of Dalit icons including that of chief minister Mayawati in Lucknow.

Producing an affidavit, chief secretary Atul Kumar Gupta, said that he was tendering an unqualified apology if there was any type of disobedience or deviation in compliance of the court directives.

On October 6, the apex court had started contempt proceedings against Gupta for allegedly violating the court, asking him to personally appear in court on November four.

The contempt proceedings have been initiated on the ground that the September 8 undertaking given by the Chief Secretary and September 11 order of the apex court on stoppage of construction activities at the sites have been flouted.
