Democracy will strengthen by exercising right to vote

Bhopal: The Governor Lalji Tandon, while addressing the State Level Felicitation Programme of the 10th National Voters’ Day held at Minto hall, said that our democracy will be strengthened only when every citizen exercise his/her right to vote in elections. He further mentioned that we should feel pride that we are the citizens of the India, the largest democratic country of the world.
The Governor further stated that the programme of National Voters’ day is important to generate awareness among the voters and to make the new voters understand the democratic importance of election. He said that it is the biggest evidence of strength of Indian democracy that our democracy is still intact, whereas democracy in many countries of the world has ended. The entire world respects our democratic system, he added.
In the programme, the Additional Chief Secretary M. Gopal Reddy said that consistent increase has been registered in the percentage of voting in the state during the last Lok Sabha and Vidhan Sabha elections. This has become possible due to the activeness of the Election Commission of India. He further asserted that basic facilities like bringing voters of all ages belonging to every section to the polling booths and dropping them back has generated awareness among the voters.
On this occasion, the Chief Electoral Officer, Madhya Pradesh B.L. Kanta Rao read the message of the Chief Election Commissioner of the country. The State Election Commissioner B.P. Singh, Election Icons Rajeev Verma, Divyanka Tripathi Dahiya and Disha Jain attended the programme.
During the programme, the Governor Tandon distributed EPIC (Election Photo Identity Card) to 10 young voters. On this occasion, awards and citations were also distributed to 30 students, who bagged first, second and third position in school and collegiate competition of slogan, essay, painting and debate. Along with this, Election officers, Commissioners of Municipal Corporations, Deputy District Returning Officers, Chief Executive officers of Jila Panchayats and Police officers were awarded for their outstanding work during the Loka Sabha Election-2019.
During the programme, Tandon administered pledge to the voters present on the occasion for exercising their right to vote.
