C’garh fares better in fiscal management: CM

The fiscal management of Chhattisgarh is better compared to the national level despite the challenges of Covid-19, Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel said on Wednesday while replying to a two-day discussion on income-expenditure in the budget.

He said the economic situation will improve the next year.

Giving comparative figures, Baghel said at the national level the GDP fall is 7.7 percent while in the state it is just 1.7 percent.

Per capita income of Chhattisgarh is just 0.14 percent compared to the national 5.41 percent. Even in interest payment, the state is in a better condition (8 percent) against 35 percent of the central government.

Chhattisgarh has to bear the loss of being a producer state as 50 percent of GST goes to the Centre and 43 percent falls in the state’s kitty. Had it been VAT, the taxes would have been received by the state.

“We have made the elite oriented system of earlier governments more common man oriented,” he said. The government has waived off farm loans to the tune of Rs 8,734.50 crores, benefitting 17.96 lakh farmers.

The Chief Minister spoke at length on the allocations made for each department with comparative figures and hoped that the budget will usher in speedier development in the coming period.
