Karnataka government employees are going on an indefinite strike from today. The state would witness a complete shutdown of government services in view of the strike. Karnataka schools and colleges are also reported to remain closed as teachers and other staff is participating in the strike. Government employees are initiating a state-wide strike demanding the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission report.
As per the local media reports, schools and colleges will remain closed for today. Various other government services like KSRTC, BBMP, BDA offices among others would also be impacted due to the strike.
A PTI report quotes Karnataka State Government Employees’ Association President C S Shadakshari as saying, “All services of ‘Mahanagara Palike’ and ‘Pura Sabha’ including pourakarmika (civic workers) and various energy supply companies. Revenue collection, schools, and pre-university examinations will also be hit.”
However, no official statement has been released yet stating the closure of schools or colleges. However, since teachers are patocu[atiing in the strike, students are advised to contact their respective school administration for updates.
Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai on Tuesday reached out to the government employees in Karnataka saying the administration was ready to seek the 7th Pay commission’s interim report and implement it.
The employees have kept their demands including, the implementation of the 7th Pay Commission report and implementation of at least 40 percent of fitment facilities, and reverting to the Old Pension Scheme.
