From Porn In Phone To Multiple Marriages, All About Sanjay Roy, Accused In Kolkata Doctor Rape-Murder Case
The man arrested for the rape and murder of a woman postgraduate trainee doctor at the state-run RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, Sanjay Roy had multiple failed marriages. Cops also found porn on the mobile phone of Roy, who had easy access to several departments of the hospital due to his role as a civic volunteer in the police welfare board.
Civic volunteers are contractual staff who are recruited to assist cops in various kinds of work, including traffic management and disaster response. They are paid around Rs 12,000 a month. Roy joined Kolkata Police’s disaster management group as a volunteer in 2019 but later transferred to the police welfare cell. He then moved to the police outpost at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital and had access to all departments.
Member of Racket Who Took Bribes From Patients To Ensure Admission In Hospital
Roy was reportedly part of a racket in the hospital that charged patients’ relatives for getting admitted. He would also charge patients’ relatives for finding a bed at nearby nursing homes if they did not get a bed at the government hospital.
Despite not being a regular cop, Roy would introduce himself as a Kolkata Police personnel and roam in t-shirt with KP (Kolkata Police) written on it. His bike too had a KP tag. He often used his contacts to stay at the police barracks. Many other civic volunteers thought he was actually a cop, reports said.
Roy admitted to the crime soon into interrogation. He showed no remorse and said, “Hang me if you want”, reports stated.
The semi-nude body of the woman PGT doctor, a second-year student in the chest medicine department, was found inside the seminar hall of the hospital on Friday. She was on duty on Thursday night, and her body bore multiple injury marks. The preliminary autopsy report indicated sexual abuse before her murder, leading her father to allege that she was raped and murdered inside the hospital.
Roy was arrested after his activities were found to be quite suspicious. Sources indicate that Roy had a history of inappropriate behaviour with women within the hospital.
