Light Showers in Bhopal as Monsoon Returns for a Final Kiss

Orange alert in 10 districts of Madhya Pradesh

Bhopal

Light afternoon showers at some places and overcast conditions brought respite to residents in the state capital on Wednesday as monsoons returned to several parts of Madhya Pradesh.

After days of humid conditions, rains brought respite to some parts of the state, while heavy showers played havoc on everyday life in several others.

Traditionally, the monsoon recedes from Madhya Pradesh around September, but over the last few years, rains in the state have continued till October. This year, too, the season is likely to conclude around that time.

Waterlogging was reported from several districts as the returning rains drenched citizens in 21 districts, including the soybean-producing regions of Sehore and Vidisha.

Heavy rains were reported from Khandwa, where 2.25 inches of rain was recorded in a span of nine hours.

Five people lost their lives due to lightning strikes in Vidisha, Tikamgarh, and Khandwa. In Vidisha’s Lateri village, a mother and her son were struck while working in the fields; the victims were identified as Sethani Bai (40) and her son, Brajpal Yadav (12).

The weatherman has alerted of very heavy rains in 10 districts over the next 24 hours. An ‘orange’ grade warning is in place for Betul, Burhanpur, Khargone, Badwani, Alirajpur, Dhar, Seoni, and Pandhurna.

The current spell of rains is attributed to the formation of a low-pressure area in the region, which is expected to persist for the next three days.
