MS Rubbishes Cath Lab Closure Reports

Dr. Tandon said that the reports were based on speculations

Amid reports of an impending prolonged closure of the catheterization laboratory at the Hamidia Hospital to move the facility to a new location on the premises, Medical Superintendent Dr. Suneet Tandon on Thursday clarified that there are no such plans at the moment.

While the reports said that the catheterization laboratory would remain closed for at least a couple of months starting November 15, Dr. Tandon said that a new lab is under construction at the moment but categorically denied the reports of its closure for a prolonged period.

Responding to queries over the matter, Dr. Tandon, who heads the mainstay tertiary health facility, said, “we can not afford to shut down the catheterization lab.”

Earlier, the reports had claimed that the hospital was planning to shut down the facility for shifting to a new location at the peak of winter—a season that is traditionally known for an accompanying spurt in cardiac related incidents.

The catheterization laboratory is an examination facility that houses diagnostic and imaging equipment and deals with angioplasty and implants of pacemakers.

Tandon said that the cath lab will be shifted to the new location only after it is ready.
