SC Refuses to Nullify FIR against Asaram Bapu
The Supreme Court has declined to nullify an FIR filed against religious guru Asaram Bapu for allegedly ordering to kill a former aide, Raju Chandok.
“Asaram Bapu wasn’t present at the time of the incident. So we had given a petition but the Supreme Court did not agree so we withdrew our petition,” the religious guru’s lawyer DK Sharma said.
The bench comprising of Justices Altamas Kabir and Swantater Kumar gave Sharma permission to withdraw the plea.
Chandok has alleged that an attempt on his life made in December 2009 after his statement against guru before a commission of inquiry was made at Asaram Bapu’s behest.
After the allegations, a case was registered against Asaram Bapu under Section 307 of IPC.
It should be noted that the apex court had earlier declined to stay Asaram Bapu’s arrest in the case.
Asaram Bapu had challenged the order of Gujarat High Court which had dismissed his petition under Section 482 CrPC for quashing of the FIR.
He is also facing allegations of indulging in large scale encroachment of public land and has already been told by the authorities to vacate it.
