Moscow Mourns Death of Victims in Metro Station Bombings
A day after 39 people were killed and 70 others injured in twin suicide bombing at Moscow metro station, the city is holding an official day of mourning on Tuesday, reported BBC.
Russians have been lighting candles and laying flowers in memory of the victims of the blast inside the Lubyanka metro station, where at least 23 people died, and the Park Kultury station, where the second explosion killed at least 12 people, said report.
Report said that the main television channels have changed their schedules, dropping advertising and entertainment programmes.
Prime Minister Vladimir Putin, while visiting the injured at a hospital in Moscow, said that law enforcement agencies would ‘do everything to find and punish the criminals’, said report.
President Dmitry Medvedev laid a wreath at the scene of one of the attacks. He called the plotters “beasts”, adding: “We will find and destroy them all.”
Security has been stepped up amid apprehensions of fresh attacks, report said.
So far no group has claimed the responsibility for strikes which are being blamed on Muslim militants from the North Caucasus, said report.
In the meanwhile, the US too vowed to assist in bringing perpetrators of attack to book, report said.
Yesterday, two suspected female suicide bombers had blown up bombs packed with pieces of metal at two different stations on the same line during rush hour.
However, the line on the Metro, one of the traffic-clogged Russian capital’s most vital commuter assets, had resumed traffic by early evening on Monday.
