Notifications for buffer zones of all tiger reserves in state issued

Bhopal: Notifications for buffer zones of all the six tiger reserves in Madhya Pradesh have been issued. Directives have been given to pay special attention to maintenance of electricity lines passing from near forests in view of wildlife’s safety. This information was given at a meeting of State Wildlife Board chaired by Chief Minister Shri Shivraj Singh Chouhan here today.
Chief Minister Shri Chouhan said that a balance approach should be adopted for wildlife conservation and development of forest villages. He said that efforts should be made for proper redressal of problems of forest villages’ residents.
It was informed at the meeting that efforts for wildlife management and conservation in tiger reserves can be made more effectively through integrated administrative control over core and buffer areas in the state. It was informed that a scheme has been chalked out for resettlement of villages situated in reserve forest areas of the state. Under the scheme, 192 out of 730 villages situated in reserve areas will be kept intact as enclaves while 426 villages will be shifted outside peripheries of reserved areas. As many as 112 villages will be resettled as it is. Out of these, three villages have already been resettled. Of the remaining 109 villages, 85 villages are situated in tiger reserves and 24 villages in National Parks and sanctuaries. Rs. 10 lakh per family is proposed to be given to each unit by assuming that each family comprises three units. For this, funds will be made available for villages in tiger reserves by National Tiger Conservation Authority while the State Government will provide funds for resettlement of villages situated in National Parks and sanctuaries.
At the meeting proposals regarding widening of the portion of Baihar-Chilpi National Highway 26 situated in Kanha Tiger Reserve, construction of two-lane road of Barhi-Hanumana National Highway 52 in Sone crocodile sanctuary, ten kilometer road within the periphery of Sone Chidiya sanctuary, four-lane road on National Highway 3 of Madhav National Park area, ten kilometer road on National Highway 69 within the periphery of Bori sanctuary in Hoshangabad, roads within ten kilometer radius of the southern periphery of Ratapani sanctuary in Obaidullahganj, natural gas pipeline in the areas within ten kilometer radius outside the periphery of Narsingarh sanctuary in Rajgarh district, construction of Gwalior-Jaipur transmission line in Chambal National Park in Bhind district, railway station at Kanchanpur in Sanjay Dubri sanctuary and construction of a bridge at Umed Ghat in Chambal National Park were endorsed. Forest Minister Shri Sartaj Singh, Minister of State for Forests Shri Jaisingh Marawi, members of Wildlife Conservation Board, Chief Secretary Shri R. Parasuram and departmental officers were present on the occasion.
