Jabalpur Police Deny Beating Claims

Jabalpur: A man has accused the Gorakhpur police in Jabalpur of beating him inside the police station after calling him for questioning. Police have denied the allegations and said he was arrested in an illegal liquor case and was not assaulted.

The 40-year-old man from Rampur said he went to the police station in connection with a bailable case under the Excise Act. He claimed that instead of following the legal process, police beat him with sticks after asking him for money.

The man said he suffered serious swelling in both legs and is now finding it difficult to walk. He also claimed that he has a fracture in one of his legs.

His family alleged that police later registered an illegal liquor case against him and took Rs 20,000. They said the injury marks on his legs raise questions about the police’s actions.

According to the complaint, police had detained another man during an operation in the Rampur area on Monday. The complainant said he later visited the police station for personal work, where he was called inside and allegedly beaten.

The station house officer denied all the allegations. He said the man was caught with illegal liquor and was medically examined. He added that the man was able to walk and that an inquiry would be conducted into the matter.
